Marmas — Where the Subtle Body Touches the Physical
107 vital points, mapped by Sushruta and still exact
A marma is a junction — a place where flesh, vessel, ligament, bone and joint meet, and where prana concentrates. Sushruta mapped 107 of them nearly two millennia ago. This part gives you the map, the classification, and a safe self-care practice you can use at home.
01
The Classical Map
How the 107 are organised
By region— the limbs, the trunk, the back, and the neck and head above
By structure— mamsa (muscle), sira (vessel), snayu (ligament), asthi (bone) and sandhi (joint) marmas
By size— measured in anguli, the finger-width unit that keeps the map proportional to each body
By consequence— the classical grading from sadyah pranahara to rujakara — why some points are treated only by trained hands
02
The Key Points You Will Learn
Safe, gentle, self-applied
The workshop teaches a small set of accessible points with light, respectful touch — never deep or forceful pressure.
Adhipati and Sthapani— crown and brow — for mental restlessness and disturbed sleep
Shankha and Apanga— temples and outer eye — for screen fatigue and tension headaches
Nila and Manya— sides of the throat — for voice, thyroid region tension and swallowing ease
Hridaya and Nabhi— heart and navel centres — for emotional holding and digestive fire
Talahridaya— centre of the palms and soles — for grounding and circulation
Kshipra and Kurcha— hands and feet — quick points for restlessness and cold extremities
03
Marma in Practice
Touch, oil and awareness
The self-care sequence— an ordered routine of gentle touch, taught and practised together
Abhyanga at home— oil selection by constitution, temperature, timing and duration
Breath with touch— coordinating exhalation with contact so the point releases rather than braces
Seasonal and daily use— when marma care supports the routine, and when rest is the better instruction
Boundaries— points and pressures reserved for trained practitioners, and conditions where marma work is avoided altogether
04
Why It Belongs in This Workshop
The interface layer
Vayus, nadis, granthis and chakras are all understood inwardly. Marmas are the one place where the vital body can be reached directly through the surface of the physical one — which makes them the most practical bridge in the whole system.
From the Teaching
"Marma is where prana pauses. Meet it gently and it moves; force it and it closes."
