Pranamaya Kosha
The Vital Energy Body

A comprehensive workshop on the subtle anatomy of prana

When we say someone is "full of life" — or "completely drained" — we are describing this sheath. Learn its complete architecture, recognise your own imbalance patterns, and leave with a personal toolkit to purify, balance and align your vital energy.

5Vayus — the pranic currents
72,000Nadis — channels of flow
3Granthis — the psychic knots

107Marmas — the vital points
The Bridge

The sheath between your body and your mind

The Taittiriya Upanishad describes the human being as five sheaths, each subtler than the last. The second — the Pranamaya Kosha — is the bridge: it animates the physical body and carries the impulses of the mind into action.

Almost everything we call "psychosomatic" lives in this layer. Chronic fatigue that rest doesn't fix. Feeling wired and tired at once. Emotions that arrive without cause, breath that stays shallow, a system that never quite settles. These are not mysteries — they are the recognisable signatures of a disturbed vital energy body.

This workshop gives you the complete classical map of that body — drawn from the Upanishads, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Sushruta Samhita — and then makes it personal: you assess your own patterns and build your own practice plan, guided by Dr. Sarvajna Krishna.

Watch · An Introduction

A short introduction to Conscious Bioenergy

In this brief film, Dr. Sarvajna Krishna introduces the Pranamaya Kosha — the vital energy body — and how the workshop moves from classical map, to personal recognition, to a complete practice toolkit.

A few minutes to feel the spirit of the teaching before you decide to sit with it in full.

Inside the Workshop

Map it. Recognise it. Restore it.

The workshop unfolds in three movements — first the architecture, then the imbalances, then the complete toolkit.

01The Architecture

The Subtle Anatomy of Prana

The complete classical map

Prana is not merely breath — breath is the vehicle; prana is the force it carries. You will study the full architecture through which it flows, layer by layer, with guided experiential practice at every stage.

  • The five vayus prana, apana, samana, udana, vyana: the currents that govern intake, elimination, digestion, expression and circulation
  • The 72,000 nadis the river system of the subtle body, and the three great channels: ida, pingala and sushumna
  • The three granthis the psychic knots of Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra that regulate the ascent of energy
  • The chakras in depth all seven major centres with their bija mantras, elements and functions, plus the key minor centres
  • The 107 marmas the vital points of the Sushruta Samhita, where the subtle body touches the physical
  • Ojas, tejas & prana the three vital essences, and why vitality needs all three in proportion
02The Imbalances

When the Subtle Energies Are Disturbed

Recognise your own patterns

Disturbance cascades in both directions — an agitated mind disturbs prana, and disturbed prana agitates body and mind. You will learn to read the signatures of imbalance across every part of the system, then complete a structured self-assessment to identify your own dominant patterns.

  • Vayu imbalances the physical and emotional signature of each disturbed current
  • Lunar & solar excess ida dominance (cold, withdrawn, low drive) versus pingala dominance (overheated, restless, burning out)
  • The granthis under stress survival anxiety, possessive attachment, and the exhausting need to control
  • Chakra patterns reading each centre as deficient or excessive, with its lifestyle correlates
  • The modern epidemic "wired and tired": aggravated prana with depleted ojas, and why stimulation deepens the drain
  • Your self-assessment a guided inventory that becomes the foundation of your personal practice plan
03The Toolkit

Purify, Balance, Align

The complete practice intensive

The tradition prescribes a wise sequence: purify first, then balance, then align. The final section is a hands-on practice laboratory — every technique taught, practised together, and matched to the imbalance patterns you identified.

  • Purification the shatkarma cleansing practices and nadi shodhana, the master purifier of the channels
  • Targeted pranayama cooling, warming, and settling breaths matched to your specific pattern
  • Bandhas & mudras the energetic locks and gestures that work directly on the three knots
  • Marma self-care gentle self-applied practice at the key vital points, with oil-massage guidance for home
  • Sound & mantra bija mantras, AUM and humming-bee breath as vibrational instruments
  • Yoga nidra & meditation deep rotation of consciousness to dissolve the tensions that keep channels constricted
  • Your daily sadhana a complete 60–75 minute morning template, adapted to your constitution
How It Is Taught

You will practise, not just listen

Every section pairs clear teaching with direct experience — because the only energy body you can truly study is your own. Across the workshop you will sit in guided practice again and again, testing each teaching in the laboratory of your own breath and body.

You leave not with notes, but with a commitment: a personal 40-day sadhana — the traditional mandala period — built from your own assessment, with a journal to walk it and an optional follow-up circle at day 40.

  • Vayu awareness meditation — sensing all five currents in your own body
  • Nostril dominance lab — reading your ida/pingala state, before and after practice
  • Granthi self-inquiry — guided journaling into the three knots of attachment
  • Chakra bija japa — chanting the seed sounds through every centre
  • Marma touch sequence — gentle awareness practice at the vital points
  • Personal sadhana planning — your 40-day practice, committed in writing
The Spirit of the Work
"The Pranamaya Kosha is not a machine to be fixed but a living intelligence to be befriended. Practice does not create this system — it removes the obstructions we have placed in it."
— From the workshop's closing teaching
